It was worth the cinematic journey to travel to sightsee "Journey 2:
The Mysterious Island". Director Brad Peyton's adventure flick is the
sequel to 2008's "Journey to the Center of the Earth". In this
installment, young Sean Anderson partners with his stepfather Hank on a
mission to a (guess what?) mysterious island to find Sean's grandfather
Alexander who just might be an inhabitant on the island. And believe
me, Gilligan has nothing on Alexander. Sean does not get along too well
with Hank, so at the same time it becomes a bonding journey for the
both of them. Sean and Hank contract the services of a helicopter tour
guide Gabato to take them to the island. So before you could say "Just
sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip"- Sean,
Hank, Gabato, and his teen daughter Kailani go through the eye of the
hurricane in the chopper and end up in the island. In the island, all
types of adventures come to island life; such as riding on gargantuan
bees, cracking the large rock eggs of humungous lizards, and
discovering the lost Atlantis, just to name a few. Director Peyton does
exaggerate some of those adventure island scenes, but they are actually
quite fun to look at. So I am hoping that this Peyton will come back to
play in the action- adventure movie field once again. Brian and Mark
Gunn's screenplay could have been a little better, but I thought their
Gunn scribe was right on target with the comedic exchanges between Hank
and Alexander. Dwayne Johnson rocked (ok, I know that was cheesy but
just wanted to rock the pun boat a bit) with his compelling performance
as Hank. Josh Hutcherson once again proved that he is a rising young
star with his work as Sean. Luis Guzman was brilliant with his comedic
performance as the neurotic Gabato. And I even give high marks to that
"High School Musical" teen Vanessa Hudgens with her solid work as
Kailani. Cannot forget the Caine factor! Legendary acting god Michael
Caine once again inhabited a charismatic performance in his role as
Alexander. There is no mystery within the super cool visual effects of
the flick! I-Must recommend to experience this film with the I-Max
